After a delay of more than an hour due to rain, the Yankees were able to defeat the Rockies 3-1 and pick up their second consecutive victory. C.C. Sabathia was unable to pick up the win as he departed after four innings due to the weather. Robinson Cano reached a personal milestone in the game with his infield single to give him a total of 1,500 hits in his career.
Sabathia allowed one run on one hit in four innings of work before departing due to rain. He struck out two batters and walked one. He also threw 51 pitches, in which 37 of them were for strikes. Sabathia seemed to be off to a good start as he retired the last ten batters he faced before the lengthy rain delay. His fastball reached 91 on the radar gun, which is a good sign due to his velocity troubles to start the season. He would not come back out to pitch after the one hour and 59 minute rain delay.
The Yankee bullpen was used extensively today and they were outstanding. Adam Warren, Boone Logan, Preston Claiborne, David Robertson, and Mariano Rivera allowed no runs on three hits in five innings of work.
Robinson Cano powered the offense today as he collected two hits, in which one of them was a solo home run. Vernon Wells and Chris Stewart also drove in runs in the win.
Mariano Rivera sealed the win today with a scoreless ninth inning. Rivera is now 13-for-13 in save opportunities this year.
The Yankees will travel to Kansas City to begin a three game set with the Royals.
