The Yankees snapped their two-game losing streak on Friday with their 9-4 win against the Tampa Bay Rays 9-4. The win came with a cost as they lost Curtis Granderson to a broken left pinky. David Phelps started for the Yankees and he took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, but lost it on a James Loney double. Phelps would later leave the game in the eighth inning after getting hit by a line drive on the right arm. The Yankee offense did their job tonight as they mustered nine runs on eleven hits.

Phelps allowed four runs on six hits in seven and two-thirds innings of work. He struck out three and did not walk a batter. He finished his outing with 98 pitches thrown, in which 63 of them were for strikes.

Brett Gardner, Lyle Overbay, and Jayson Nix powered the offense tonight as they all drove in two runs each. Robinson Cano and Chris Stewart each drove in a run as well. Everyone in the starting lineup picked up at least one hit, except Vernon Wells and Curtis Granderson. Wells hit multiple balls well, but they always seemed to find leather in the field.

The Yankees and Rays will continue their three game series tomorrow afternoon.

David Phelps hit by liner; exits in eighth

Update 10:32 pm ET: Phelps has been diagnosed with a right forearm contusion.

David Phelps has been removed from Friday night's game against the Rays after being hit by a line drive in the right arm. It was unclear where it got him exactly, but it looked like the upper arm.

Phelps was clearly upset as he slammed his glove down and walked around the mound.

Boone Logan was called upon to finish the eighth inning.

We will update you as soon as we get more information about his condition.

Curtis Granderson diagnosed with a fractured left pinky

The Yankees have announced that Curtis Granderson has been diagnosed with a fracture in his left fifth metacarpal, which is the knuckle of the pinky.

Granderson was hit on the left hand by a pitch in the fifth inning. He would stay in the game to run the bases, but did not come back out for the bottom half of the fifth inning.

There has been no word as of yet who will replaced Granderson on the roster.
