What a win and a confidence boost this was for the Yankees. With two outs in the ninth inning, the Yankees rallied off of Fernando Rodney to score two runs and tie the game at three. Lyle Overbay gave the Yankees the lead in the eleventh inning with his go-ahead solo shot, which sealed the win..

Vidal Nuno started for the Yankees and he gave them a solid performance. He allowed two runs on five hits in six innings of work. He struck out two and walked one. He finished his outing with 87 pitches thrown, in which 55 of them were for strikes. Although Nuno pitched a great game, he ended up with a no-decision.

The Yankees got on the board early today as Travis Hafner drove in Brett Gardner with a single in the first inning. They would not score again until the ninth inning with two outs and a 3-1 game. Brennan Boesch came up big with a clutch RBI triple to left field, which scored Overbay from second base. The Yankees would go on to tie the game one batter later when Brett Gardner singled to center field to score Boesch.

Lyle Overbay came up with two outs in the eleventh inning and hit a long solo shot to right field to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead.

The Yankee bullpen got the job done today, despite allowing the Rays to score twice in the seventh inning. David Robertson pitched a scoreless ninth inning and Ivan Nova pitched a scoreless tenth.

Mariano Rivera shut the door in the eleventh inning to earn his 18th save in 18 opportunities.

The Yankees and Rays will play the finale of their three game series tomorrow afternoon.

Yankees claim David Huff off waivers

The Yankees have claimed left-hander David Huff off of waivers from the Cleveland Indians on Saturday. Francisco Rondon has been designated for assignment to make room for Huff on the 40-man roster.

Huff owns a 5.40 ERA in 288 innings throughout his career. He has struggled somewhat this season with the Indians as he posted a 15.00 ERA in three innings.

David Huff will likely join the team at some point as he is out of minor league options. If the Yankees attempt to send him to the minors, then he will have to pass through waivers again. If he does get a major league spot, it seems as if Ivan Nova will get sent down to the minors due to the effectiveness of Shawn Kelley and Preston Claiborne.

Yankees place Curtis Granderson on disabled list

The Yankees have placed Curtis Granderson on the 15-day disabled list with a fracture in his left fifth metacarpal bone, which is the pinky.

Granderson was hit in the hand by a pitch in the fifth inning of the Yankees 9-4 win over the Rays on Friday.

Brennan Boesch has been recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace him.
