The Yankees had a 1-0 lead going into the ninth inning, but they were unable to hold it as the Mets stormed back against Mariano Rivera to win 2-1. This game lived up to all the hype as it was a pitchers duel. The Yankees got to Matt Harvey in the sixth and he was on track for his first loss of the season, but the Mets bailed him out. Hiroki Kuroda was also outstanding tonight as he did not allow a run.

Kuroda allowed no run on four hits in seven innings of work. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter. He finished his outing with 110 pitches thrown, in which 72 of them were for strikes.

The Yankees lone run came in the sixth inning when Lyle Overbay drove in Brett Gardner. Besides that inning, the Yankees didn't really have anything going. They threatened in the eighth inning, but could not get a run across.

The Yankees look to rebound against the Mets tomorrow as they start the second half of the Subway Series in the Bronx.

Joba Chamberlain activated from disabled list

The Yankees have announced that they have activated relief pitcher Joba Chamberlain from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday. Chamberlain has been out for four weeks with a strained oblique.

Chamberlain has been rehabbing his injury at the Yankees training complex in Tampa. He also has been appearing in minor league games to get some work in.

With his return, Joe Girardi has stated that Chamberlain will regain his seventh inning spot.

The Yankees were unable to kick off the Subway Series with a victory as they lost the opener to the Mets 2-1 on Monday. Phil Hughes was solid tonight and defiantly gave them a chance to win. This game became a battle of the bullpens and the Mets came out on top.

Hughes allowed one run on four hits in seven innings of work. He struck out six and did not allow a walk. He finished his outing with 101 pitches thrown, in which 68 of them were for strikes.

David Robertson relieved Hughes to begin the eighth inning and he surrendered the lead as Daniel Murphy singled in the go-ahead run. Robertson would not finish the eighth inning. Boone Logan came on with two outs and retired Lucas Duda to get the game to the ninth inning.

Jayson Nix provided the offense for the Yankees tonight. His single in the sixth inning accounted for the Yankees only run of the game.

The Yankees and Mets will continue their four-game Subway Series tomorrow.
