With only two wins under his belt in eleven game started, Phil Hughes earned his third win with an outstanding outing against the Mariners. Hughes pitched as good as he's ever pitched as the he led the Yankees to a 6-1 victory over the Mariners. The Yankee offense had his back tonight as well as they put up a six spot in the third inning.

Phil Hughes allowed one run on three hits in seven innings of work. He struck out seven and walked two batters. He concluded his outing with 111 pitches thrown, in which 70 of them were for strikes.

Robinson Cano got the Yankees on the board in the third inning with a three-run home run to right field. Mark Teixeira would match Cano as he drilled a solo shot to right field.

After a Travis Hafner single and a Kevin Youkilis double, Vernon Wells drove in Hafner with a bloop single to right field. Youkilis would eventually score one batter later on the Ichiro Suzuki single.

Those six runs in the third inning would be all the Yankees needed.

Preston Claiborne, Boone Logan, and Shawn Kelley all had scoreless outings coming out of the bullpen.

The Yankees and Mariners will play the middle game of their three-game set tomorrow night.

After starting their eight game homestand with a 1-4 record, the Yankees bounced back in a big way with a three-game sweep of the Cleveland Indians. C.C. Sabathia was outstanding today as he pitched a complete game to defeat the Indians 6-4. The Yankee offense gave Sabathia an early lead with six runs in the first two innings.

Sabathia allowed four runs on seven hits in nine innings of work. He struck out nine and walked only one batter. He finished his outing with 116 pitches thrown, in which 84 of them were for strikes.

The Yankees got on the board quickly this afternoon.

Travis Hafner opened up the scoring in the first inning with a long two-run shot to right field.

After Chris Stewart's RBI single in the second inning, Brett Gardner gave the Yankees a 6-0 lead with a three-run shot to right field.

The Yankees would not score anymore runs, but their six early runs proved to be enough.

The Yankees finished their homestand with a 4-4 record and now will travel out west to take on the Mariners in a three-game set that begins on Thursday.
