The Yankees were finally able to get back into the win column on Sunday with their 6-5 win over the Angels, which snapped their five-game losing streak. The Yankee exploded in the third inning with five runs. C.C. Sabathia did his job today with his outstanding start.

Sabathia allowed two runs on five hits in eight innings of work. He struck out six and walked three batters. Sabathia finished his outing with 107 pitches, in which 70 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense did their part in the third inning as they put a five spot up on the board. Travis Hafner hit a three-run shot to center field to make it a 3-0 Yankee lead. Lyle Overbay would then double in Vernon Wells after his single to make it 4-0. Jayson Nix would then later drive in Overbay with a single to left field.

The Yankees would tack on another run in the eighth inning when Vernon Wells hit a sacrifice fly to score Robinson Cano.

The game would get a little interesting in the ninth inning. The Angels would go on to score five runs and stand the tying and winning runs on base. Mariano Rivera struck out Albert Pujols to end the game.

The Yankees will enjoy a day off tomorrow before starting a two-game set with the Dodgers in New York.

With their losing streak at four-games coming into this game, the Yankees hoped to halt it right there. Unfortunately, David Phelps was unable to snap the losing streak as the Yankees lost 6-2 against the Angels on Saturday. Phelps suffered his fourth loss of the season tonight, although he didn't pitch that poorly.

Phelps allowed four runs on nine hits in six innings of work. He struck out two and walked two. Phelps finished his outing with 102 pitches, in which 65 of them were for strikes.

The Yankees got on the board in the third inning on the Brett Gardner RBI triple to right field, which made it a 1-1 game. Jayson Nix would then single one batter later to make it a 2-1 game.

The Angels would tie the game in the bottom half of the third inning, then go on to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Yankees look to avoid their second consecutive sweep tomorrow as they conclude their three-game set with the Angels.

Andy Pettitte - New York Yankees v Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

The Yankees were unable to snap their three-game losing streak tonight as they were defeated 5-2 by the Angels. The Yankee offense struggled again tonight and could not back up starter Andy Pettitte. Pettitte defiantly gave them a chance to win, but with the slumping offense, the losing streak increases to four games.

Andy Pettitte allowed four runs on eleven hits in seven innings of work. He struck out four and walked only one. He finished his outing with 101 pitches thrown, in which 68 of them were for strikes.

David Adams provided the offense tonight for the Yankees with his two-run single in the fourth inning.

The Yankees hope to snap their four-game losing streak tomorrow against the Angels.
