Report: Alex Rodriguez set to retire after return

A report by the New York Daily News suggests that Alex Rodriguez is set to return, then retire, to collect the remainder of his five-year, $114 million dollar contract.

An annymous source told NYDN that his plan is to begin rehab games, then say that he is unable to continue playing due to his serious hip injury. If Rodriguez retires due to his injured hip, then he will be able to collect the money left on his contract.

Rodriguez is currently being pursued by Major League Baseball as he is tied in with the Biogenesis steroid scandal. Major League Baseball is trying to suspended Alex Rodriguez for a minimum of 100 games for his connection to the scandal. There have been no reports on when and if Rodriguez will be suspended.

The Yankees will not be forced to pay the remainder of his contract because of an insurance plan that they have in place. The insurance plan covers up to 80 percent of his contract. If this does indeed happen, then the Yankees would have a lot more money to play around with, plus get Rodriguez out of a Yankee uniform, and baseball.
