Yankees sign Luis Cruz

With their recent injury to utility man Jayson Nix, the Yankees have gone out and signed infielder Luis Cruz. He is expected to join the Yankees immediately and is likely to play shortstop and third base for the team. Cruz was designated for assignment by the Dodgers just five days ago and decided to become a free agent.

Cruz was hitting just .127 for the Dodgers in 45 games for the club in 2013.

The Yankees are hoping that Cruz can return to his 2012 form when he hit .297 in 78 games for the Dodgers,

Yankees place Jayson Nix on DL

The Yankees have placed utility man Jayson Nix on the 15-day disabled list with a grade II groin strain. Nix injured his groin in the ninth inning of their 10-4 win over the Twins on Monday night. The recovery time for this type of injury is 4-6 weeks, so this injury isn't a short-term one.

Nix is currently hitting .236 with two home runs and twenty runs batted in for the Yankees in 73 games this season.

The Yankees will most likely make a minor move to replace Nix.

The Yankees were able to win their second consecutive game against the Twins on Tuesday as they defeated them 7-3. The Yankee offense once again showed sign of life tonight with their seven runs on ten hits. Phil Hughes pitched another impressive game tonight.

Hughes allowed one run on six hits in seven innings of work. He struck out three and walked two. He finished his outing with 114 pitches thrown, in which 70 of them were for strikes.

Robinson Cano played a huge part of tonight's offense. His three-run shot to right field in the seventh inning gave the Yankees a comfortable 7-1 lead over the Twins.

Mariano Rivera came on in the ninth inning with runners on first and second with two outs and retired the only batter he faced on two pitches to end the game.

The Yankees and Twins will continue their four-game set tomorrow night.
