The Yankees were able to defeat the Twins in the series opener by a final score of 2-0.
Hiroki Kuoda started for the Yankees and he allowed no runs on six hits in five innings of work. He struck out five and walked two. He finished his outing with 90 pitches thrown, in which 52 of them were for strikes.
Brett Gardner and Robinson Cano both drove in the only runs of the game in the bottom half of the fifth inning.
The Yankees and Twins will continue their three-game set tomorrow afternoon.
