The Yankees were able to defeat the Red Sox on Saturday 5-2 after they were given a great start from Hiroki Kuroda. The Yankee offense picked Kuroda up as well as some flashy defense. Chris Stewart helped his pitcher out with a spectacular double-play on a pop up.

Hiroki Kuroda allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings of work. He struck out four and walked one. He finished his outing with 104 pitches thrown, in which 72 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense picked up the pitching staff today by plating five runs on twelve hits. Brett Gardner and Lyle Overbay both drove in one run while Robinson Cano drove in two. As a team the Yankees were 4-for-14 with runners in scoring position and they stranded a total of seven runners on base.

Mariano Rivera came on in the ninth inning and shut the door as he pitched a scoreless inning.

The Yankees and Red Sox will conclude their three-game set tomorrow night.

The Yankee offense came off the bat of Chris Stewart as he drove in one run in today's game. The other Yankee run came solely from Brett Gardner and he worked a walk, then stole second and third and scored on a throwing error.
