The Yankees probably just won the biggest game of the year as they scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat the Texas Rangers 5-4.

Phil Hughes started for the Yankees and he pitched well. Hughes allowed three runs, none of them earned though, on four hits in five and two-thirds innings of work. He struck out one, but walked three. He finished his outing with 80 pitches thrown, in which 53 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense came to life in the ninth inning against Joe Nathan as they scored two runs to take a 5-4 lead.

Mariano Rivera came on in the ninth inning and shut the door to earn his 32nd save of the season.

The Yankees and Rangers will continue their four-game set tomorrow night.
