The Yankees were unable to pick up their first win of the season as they lost to the Astros 3-1.

Hiroki Kuroda started the game and pitched fairly well, although the pitches he left up in the zone were hit for extra base hits.

The Yankee offense was quiet again. They struggled all night with driving in runs and left many men on base. They had their opportunities, but were unable to cash in.

The Yankees and Astros will conclude their opening series tomorrow night.

Yankees designated Eduardo Nunez for assignment

The Yankees have designated infielder Eduardo Nunez for assignment today in order to make room for Yangervis Solarte on the 40-man roster, the team has announced.

Nunez used to be looked at as a replacement for Derek Jeter, but with his inconsistent defense and sub par bat, the Yankees look to go in a different direction.

Solarte beat Nunez out in spring training for the final backup infield spot after posting impressive numbers.

The Yankees have 10 days to place him on waivers, trade him, release him, or send him down to the minors.
