Yanks' can't defeat Rays on Old Timers' Day

With all of the old timers' watching, the Yankees were unable to defeat the Rays as they were defeated 3-1. The deciding play came in the seventh inning when James Loney roped a two-run single back up the middle off of Boone Logan. Ivan Nova pitched a spot start today and he was impressive.

Nova allowed three runs on seven hits in six and two thirds innings of work. He struck out seven and walked three. Nova could have escaped this outing with only one run allowed, but Boone Logan could not escape the jam. He finished his outing with 103 pitches thrown, in which 68 of them were for strikes.

Robinson Cano drove in the Yankees only run today with a sacrifice fly to left field, which scored Brett Gardner, in the bottom half of the second inning.

The Yankees will enjoy an off-day tomorrow and will begin a three-game set with the Rangers on Tuesday.
