David Phelps to Start Against Royals

David Phelps is set to make his first major league start on Thursday after showing impressing stuff while coming out of the bullpen.

Phelps has a record of 0-0 with a 3.57 ERA this season. He has appeared in in 6 games and has pitched 17.2 innings.

Freddy Garcia has been moved to the bullpen after failing to impress the Yankees as a starter. Garcia is 0-2 with a 12.51 ERA in 4 games this season. He has pitched 13 2/3 innings.

On a side note, the Yankees have made some minor roster moves. D.J. Mitchell has been recalled from Triple-A to serve as a long reliever. Cody Eppley has been optioned to Triple-A.

Nick Swisher Out With Mild Hamstring Strain

Nick Swisher left Sundays game early after feeling discomfort in his left hamstring.

Swisher worked a walked against Tigers starter Max Scherzer in the 3rd inning and while jogging down to first base, he felt discomfort. Joe Girardi and Steve Donahue came out and Swisher was lifted. Andruw Jones pinch ran for him and went 2-2 on the day.

"He's got a real low-grade strain," Girardi said. "We've probably looking at more than a few days, but I'm not saying it's a DL situation. We'll have to see how it progresses in the next few days."

The Yankees did not expect to call up another outfielder. Brett Gardner is expected to return Thursday from the disabled list.
