The Yankees were able to get back into the win column on Monday when the defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-2 thanks to a Raul Ibanez grand slam in the eighth inning.

Phil Hughes started for the Yankeess and he had a solid outing. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 7 innings of work. He was tabbed with the no decision though. Hughes exited the game with 106 pitches thrown, in which 61 of them were for strikes.

Russell Martin contributed to the scoring tonight with a solo home run to right field in the second inning. It was his 9th on the year.

Robinson Cano extended his hit streak to 19 games with his RBI double in the third inning, that made it's way past a diving Bautista.

The Yankees and Blue Jays were tied at 2 in the eighth inning when Raul Ibanez came up with the bases loaded and two out. Ibanez drilled a 3-1 fastball from Jason Fraisor that reached the second deck in right field to give the Yankees the 6-2 lead.

Rafael Soriano would relieve Cody Eppley in the ninth, who could not close the game out, to secure his 23nd save on the season.

Brett Gardner Shut Down Again; Could Be for Season

Brett Gardner has experienced soreness in his injured right elbow again, a day after he participated in a simulated game. Gardner has only played 9 games this season for the Yankees.

Before last night's game, it was revealed that Gardner would be shut down after experiencing elbow soreness. This is the third time that Gardner has been shut down.

"He came up a little bit sore today, so he's not playing today," Joe Girardi said. "We'll see how he feels tomorrow and we'll go from there. It's a concern because it happened before. Hopefully he can just get through this and continue to play, but we'll have to wait and see."

With the trade deadline approaching, the Yankees could scoop up an average outfielder to replace Gardner.
