Yankees Place Ivan Nova on the Disabled List

The Yankees have announced that they have placed right-hander Ivan Nova on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right rotator cuff.

Nova first felt discomfot while facing his final batter against the White Sox on Tuesday night. Joe Girardi removed Nova after learning about the injury.

Ivan Nova was sent back to New York for tests, which revealed the inflammation.

The Yankees hope that Ivan Nova will only be out the mandatory 15 days. He will not throw for at least five days.

The Yankees struggles continued on Wednesday as they were defeated by the White Sox 2-1 which capped of their sweep. Their lead in the AL East is down to just three games over the Rays.

Phil Hughes started for the Yankees and he was solid. Hughes allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 7 innings of work. He struck out 5 and walked 2. He exited with 98 pitches thrown, in which 71 of them were for strikes.

David Robertson worked the eighth inning and he only allowed one hit.

The Yankee offense was just not there tonight. Derek Jeter hit a solo shot in the sixth inning which accounted for the Yankees only run.

The Yankees will enjoy a much needed off-day tomorrow and will begin a three game set with the Indians on Friday.

Nova Struggles in Loss to White Sox

Ivan Nova's recent struggles continued on Tuesday as the Yankees were defeated by the White Sox 7-3.

Nova allowed 6 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings of work. He struck out 3 and walked 2. Nova exited with 84 pitches thrown, in which 53 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense started with a bang as Derek Jeter hit a home run on the very first pitch of the game. It was Jeter's 12th home run of the season. The Yankees would go on to score once more in the first inning on a Curtis Granderson force out which scored Nick Swisher. Russell Martin would homer in the seventh inning which would be the last time they would score.

Derek Lowe came on in relief and allowed 1 run on 5 hits in 2 innings of work. He struck out 2 and walked only 1 batter.

The Yankees and White Sox will conclude their three game set tomorrow night.
