Yankees and Blue Jays Opener Postponed

The opener between the Yankees and Blue Jays tonight has been postponed due to incliment weather. The Yankees have announced that a double header will take place on Wednesday.

Andy Pettitte, who was supposed to start tonight, will pitch start the day game tomorrow. David Phelps will be called on to pitch the nightcap.

The Yankees were able to overcome the Rays on Sunday as they defeated them 6-4. With their win today, the Yankees increased their lead to five games over the Rays in the American League East.

Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and he picked up the win. Kuroda allowed 4 runs on 4 hits in 6 innings of work. He struck out 10 and walked 2 in his performance today. Kuroda finished his outnig with 101 pitches thrown, in which 62 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense did their damage in the third inning when they scored put a five spot on the board. Russell Martin did the most damage with his opposite-field three-run shot to increase their lead to 5-0. Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez both drove in one run in the inning as well.

The Yankee bullpen was outstanding again today as they pitched three scoreless innings. Boone Logan, David Phelps, David Robertson, and Rafael Soriano all contributed in their win today.

Rafael Soriano worked the ninth inning and notched his 40th save of his season.

The Yankees will enjoy their day off tomorrow and will begin a three game set with the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Nova allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 6 innings of work. He struck out 8 batters and allowed only 2 walks. With his victory today, he increased his record to 12-7 on the season.

The Yankee bullpen did an outstanding job as they pitched 3 innings of 3 hit ball.

Curtis Granderson got the Yankees on the board in the second inning with his two-run shot to right field. Eduardo Nunez would follow with a solo-shot to left field to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead.
