The Yankees were unable to find a spark tonight as they were defeated by the Mets 3-1. The Yankees have now lost five games in a row and trail the Red Sox by two games for first place in the American League East.  This is also the first time in history that the Mets have won four straight games against the Yankees.

Vidal Nuno started for the Yankees and he was pretty good. Nuno made one big mistake and that was a fastball down the middle on a 1-2 count to Marlon Byrd, who crushed it into the second deck in left field for a two-run shot. Nuno allowed two runs on three hits in six innings of work. He struck out two and walked two. He finished his outing with 97 pitches thrown, in which 62 of them were for strikes.

Robinson Cano accounted for the Yankees only run tonight as he hit a solo shot in the third inning.

The Yankees and Red Sox will begin a three-game weekend series tomorrow night at the Stadium.
