The Yankees were able to increase their win streak to six games on Saturday with their 5-4 win over the Orioles. Andy Pettitte picked up the win and increased his record to 6-6. He didn't pitch that well of a game but he got through it and picked up the win.

Pettitte allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits in six and two thirds innings of work. He struck out four and did not walk one. He finished his outing with 100 pitches thrown, in which 65 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense was on a roll today as they mustered out ten hits in the win.

The Yankees and Orioles will conclude their three-game set tomorrow afternoon.

With the thought of taking a complete game loss looming in his head, Ivan Nova watched the Yankee offense come alive in the ninth inning against Orioles closer, Jim Johnson. Vernon Wells delivered the big blow with his game-winning, RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning. Ivan Nova pitched an outstanding game tonight as he pitched his first complete game and also picked up the win.

Ivan Nova allowed two runs on three hits in nine innings of work. He struck out eleven batters and walked only one. He finished his outing with 102 pitches thrown, in which 70 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense came alive in the ninth inning when they scored two runs to defeat the Orioles.

Travis Hafner worked a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at two in the ninth inning.

Vernon Wells was  next and he singled to left field through the drawn in infield to give the Yankees the win.

Luis Cruz drove in the Yankees first run in the fourth inning, which made it a 2-1 game.

The Yankees and Orioles will continue their three-game set tomorrow afternoon.

Derek Jeter cleared to begin rehab assignment

The Yankees' captain, Derek Jeter, has been cleared to begin a rehab assignment as he works his way back from his ankle injury.

Jeter is set to join Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday and will play at least five innings.

Derek Jeter has been sidelined since he broke in ankle in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series against the Tigers. Jeter has been close to returning, but setbacks have caused him to miss more time. It's almost impossible to speculate when he will be back and there is currently no timetable for his return.
