The Yankees were able to avoid the three-game sweep by the Rays on Sunday as they defeated them 6-5. Alfonso Soriano proved to be the hero today as he led the Yankees to the victory with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning. Phil Hughes started for the Yankees today and had another shaky outing.

Hughes allowed five runs on nine hits in four innings of work. He struck out four and walked two. He finished his outing with 92 pitches, in which 59 of them were for strikes.

Alfonso Soriano powered the Yankee offense today as he went four-for-five with three runs batted in.

Mariano Rivera came on in the ninth inning with the ballgame tied and pitched a scoreless inning.

The Yankees will enjoy an off-day tomorrow before beginning a two-game set with the Dodgers on Tuesday.

The Yankees were unable to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays for a second consecutive day as they were shutout 1-0.

Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and he undeservingly suffered the loss. Nova allowed one run on six hits in seven innings of work. He struck out eight and walked three. He finished his outing with 105 pitches, in which 68 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense was unable to get going today as they collected just two hits in the loss.

The Yankees and Rays will conclude their three-game set tomorrow afternoon.

The Yankees were unable to defeat the Rays in the opener on Friday night as they were defeated 10-6.

C.C. Sabathia struggles this season continued as he allowed seven runs on nine hits in five innings of work. He struck out six and walked three. He finished his outing with 102 pitches, in which 65 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense was able to score six runs on eleven hits, but had nothing to show for it in the loss.

The Yankees and Rays will continue their three-game set tomorrow afternoon.
