Yanks' Can't Complete Sweep of Angels

The Yankees were unable to complete the sweep of the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday when they were defeated 10-8 in game that changed leads throughout. 

Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and he had a sub-par outing. He allowed 6 runs on 9 hits in 6 innings of work. He struck out 3 and walked 2. Nova exited with 101 pitches thrown, in which 62 of them were for strikes.

The Yankee offense had the long ball working toady. They hit a total of four home runs in todays game. Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run shot in the first and Curtis Granderson hit a solo shot in the sixth. Eric Chavez would add on with a solo shot in the seventh inning.Then in the ninth inning, Mark Teixeira would add with a two-run shot of his own.

Curtis Granderson showed off his defensive skills today. He made a nice over the shoulder grab, which you will defiantly see on the highlight reel, and then made a diving catch in the right-center field gap.

The Yankees were putting a rally together in the bottom of the ninth, but with the bases loaded and down by two, Alex Rodriguez popped up to first base to end the game.

The Yankees will begin a three game set with the Blue Jays on Monday.

The Yankees were able to knock off the Angels for the second consecutive time with their 5-3 win on Saturday. Robinson Cano stayed hot as he extended his hit streak to 17 games and drove in 3 runs.

Freddy Garcia started for the Yankees and he picked up the win. Garcia allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 5 innings of work. He struck out 4 and walked 5. He threw 98 pitches, which 54 of them were for strikes. His high pitch count led to his early exit.

Down two runs in the bottom of the first, Robinson Cano hit a two-run shot to left field which tied the game. Cano would later drive in another run in the sixth inning with his single to center field that plated Alex Rodriguez. He finished the day 2-4 with 3 runs batted in and 1 run scored.

Curtis Granderson blasted a two-run shot to right field in the third inning, which at the time gave the Yankees a 4-2 lead.

With Garcia's early exit, the bullpen had to finish the game. They pitched four scoreless innings and only allowed 2 hits. They struck out 4 batters combined

Rafael Soriano closed the game out in the ninth and notched his 22nd save.

Joba Chamberlain Throws Two Hitless Innings

Joba Chamberlain continued his rehabilitation program on Saturday when he threw two scoreless innings for the Gulf Coast League Yankees.

Chamberlain threw 19 pitches out of 28 for strikes. His fastball reached 97 MPH for the second consecutive game.

The Yankees could expect Joba back sometime at the end of July, but most likely in August.
