The Yankees and Blue Jays were tied at 2 in the eighth inning when Raul Ibanez came up with the bases loaded and two out. Ibanez drilled a 3-1 fastball from Jason Fraisor that reached the second deck in right field to give the Yankees the 6-2 lead.

Rafael Soriano would relieve Cody Eppley in the ninth, who could not close the game out, to secure his 23nd save on the season.
