The Yankees were able to win the opener of their three game set against the Orioles on Friday by a final score of 5-2. During the game the Yankees made some more history as they spun the first ever 4-6-5-6-5-3-4 triple play.

C.C. Sabathia started for the Yankees and he was outstanding. Sabathia allowed two runs on eight hits in eight innings of work. He struck out nine and walked only one batter. Sabathia exited the game with 102 pitches thrown, in which 74 of them were for strikes. Although his velocity was down again, he was able to get hitters out with his nasty changeup.

The Yankee offense caught a break in the seventh inning when Vernon Wells laced a ball to center field with the bases loaded in a 2-2 game. It seemed as if Adam Jones would catch the ball, but it hit the heel of his glove and fell to the ground. With that huge error, the Yankees took a 5-2 lead and would not look back.

Mariano Rivera would come on in the ninth and shut the door to earn his second save of the season.

The Yankees and Orioles will continue their three game set tomorrow afternoon.

Andy Pettitte dealing with back spasms

Due to lingering back spasms, Andy Pettitte will not make his scheduled start on Sunday against the Orioles. Pettitte, who has been dominant this year, started to experience the spasms during the third inning against the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday.

Although Pettitte experienced the spasms during the game, he was able to work through it and collect his second win of the season. Pettitte felt a little sore on Wednesday, one day after his start, but did not feel any pain during his bullpen session on Thursday. When Pettitte got home on Thursday night, his back tightened up on him and he called Joe Girardi.

The injury does not seem to be serious, and Joe Girardi expects Pettitte to start on Tuesday or Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

"Back spams are just something that comes up," Girardi said. "If it reoccurs all the time, then it becomes a concern, but i've had them plenty of times in my lifetime and i didn't think it was going to keep me from playing. It might knock you out for a couple of days, but hopefully it's just a one-time event."

Andy Pettitte is 2-0 on the year with a 1.20 ERA.

Eduardo Nunez exits game in the third inning

Update 8:33 pm ET - 4/12: Eduardo Nunez's X-rays came back negative and has been diagnosed with a bruised wrist. His status is likely day-to-day.

Eduardo Nunez has left Friday night's game after being hit by a pitch on the right wrist by starter Miguel Gonzalez.

Nunez, who just recovered from being hit in the biceps, fell to the ground in pain. Manager Joe Girardi and trainer Steve Donahue rushed out to check on their young shortstop.

Eduardo Nunez would stay in the game to run, but would not return to the field at the beginning the third inning. After attempting to throw across the field, he voluntarily took himself out of the game.

There has been no update on his condition at this time.
